WTA Finals: Zheng Qinwen overcomes Rybakina, keeps semis hopes alive
China’s rising star Zheng Qinwen triumphed over a struggling Elena Rybakina, securing a 7-6(4), 3-6, 6-1 victory in an intense showdown at the WTA Finals.
The Briton went through a not-so-great WTA 2022 season as she called her season off as early as in October 2022 after she suffered from a wrist injury.
Emma Raducanu kicked off her 2023 journey on a winning note in ASB Classic at Auckland on Tuesday. Raducanu snatched victory from the hands of Czech Republic’s rising star Linda Fruhvirtova in the opening round.
Raducanu won the match at ASB Tennis Center 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. The 17-year-old Czech player won the opening set against the Briton, but she changed the momentum and won the match with a run of four straight victories.

Raducano later said “I think it’s like four hours later. Honestly, I don’t know what time it is anymore.”
She further added “What a battle. Linda is such a great young player, and it was a different dynamic for me because usually, I’m the younger one.
Going into this match she is and she’s going to be up there for sure, she already is.”
