Premier Badminton League: Awadhe pip NE Warriors 4-3

Awadhe Warriors defeated North Eastern Warriors 4-3 in a Premier Badminton League (PBL) contest at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here on Saturday.

The mixed doubles pair of Tang Chun Man and Christinna Pedersen won Awadhe’s ‘Trump Match’ against Kim Gi Jung and Prajakta Sawant 15-14, 15-13, giving the Lucknow-based outfit a 2-0 lead.

Parupalli Kashyap made it 3-0 after defeating Ajay Jayaram 15-9, 15-12 in the men’s singles battle.

Olympic 2012 bronze medallist Saina Nehwal overcame Michelle Li 6-15, 15-13, 15-13 to make it an unassailable 4-0 for Awadhe.

In the second men’s singles match, Wang Tzu Wei crushed Kidambi Srikanth 10-15, 15-9, 15-6 to open NE Warriors’ account.

The men’s doubles pair of Kim Gi Jung and Shin Baek Cheol registered a 15-10, 15-12 victory over Harendra Setiawan & Tang Chun Man in NE Warriors’ aTrump Match’ to bring down the deficit to one. But it didn’t change the result of the tie with Awadhe winning it 4-3.
