BGT 2024-25: Ponting optimistic about uncapped Australia opener
Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting believes 19-year-old rookie opener Sam Konstas has what it takes to make a mark in the remaining Border-Gavaskar trophy Tests against India.
Ricky Ponting, while giving an interview to ESPcricinfo, said, “He (Pant) is unsure whether he will be fit to be a skipper or maintain wicket (in the IPL, 2014) because he is still recovering from the recent car accident.”
The Delhi Capitals, which had a terrible run in the Indian Premier League 2023, have now been presented with some glimmer of hope. Indian wicketkeeper and batsman Risabh Pant is “very confident” in playing the entire season of the IPL 2024.

Since his accident in December 2022, Pant’s performance has noticeably declined. Following the incident, where he expressed feeling like his “time in this world was over,” Pant’s form has been lacking.

Ponting, speaking in Melbourne on Wednesday after being introduced as the new MLC (Major League Cricket) coach for the Washington Freedom team , noted Pant’s optimism about being available for the upcoming season.
However, Ponting emphasized that they view any contribution from Pant as a bonus. “Rishabh is very confident that he is going to be ready to play,” Ponting stated. “In what capacity, we are not quite sure yet.”
Adding to this Ponting further said, “We are keeping our fingers crossed on Pant’s availability; let us see if we can get him back fit for at least 10 of 14 games.”
