Gopi T eyes event record at Tata Mumbai Marathon
The iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus will be the starting point for all races of the Marathon. The half-marathon will start from the Mahim Reti Bandar ground.
Defending champions Gopi T and Monica Athare will be among the 65 elite athletes of the country who will be seen in action in the IDBI Federal Life Insurance New Delhi Marathon on 25 February.
Leading the pack in the men’s Full Marathon category will be Gopi T. who last year, crossed the finish line in 2:15:37 to win the title.
Fellow Rio Olympian, Nitendra Singh Rawat, will also be running the Full Marathon with his eyes fixed firmly on the podium. His best timing recorded for the Full Marathon is 2:15:18.

Also in contention for the title this year is Kheta Ram, an experienced runner. Last year he ran the Half Marathon and stood third by finishing the race in just 1:06:15. This time he will have to face tough competition from Gopi T and Nitendra Singh Rawat, who recently had a one-two podium finish in Mumbai last month.
Among the women athletes, defending champion Monica Athare from Nashik will be competing with Jyoti Gawate who came second last year with a recorded time of 2:53:48. Monica Athare represented the country at the 2017 World Championships, while Jyoti Gawate qualified as runner-up in Mumbai last month.
In the Half Marathon men’s category, Govind Singh will be eyeing to win with his best timing of 1:03:32. His strong competitor will be Thirta Pun whose personal best is 1:07:17.
In Women’s Half Marathon category, Kiran and Varsha Devi will be aiming for a podium spot, with both having a personal best timing which is a few seconds apart from each other.
