Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who is known for his witty birthday wishes on Twitter, got a taste of his own medicine on Friday when some of his fellow cricketers decided to wish him with a pun on his 39th birthday.
“Happy birthday, Viru! Have a great start to the new year. You have always done ulta (opposite) of what I have told you on field. So here’s one from me,” Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, with an upside-down font.

India’s new age opener Ajinkya Rahane thanked Sehwag for introducing the word ‘fearless’ to cricketers like him. “Happy bday @virendersehwag Thanks for teaching us the meaning of the word Fearless! Wish I could have seen one 300 from the non-striker’ss end!”
Fast bowler Ishant Sharma echoed Rahane’s voice, calling his Delhi circuit senior a ‘destructive’ batsman. “Happy birthday @virendersehwag most destructive opening batsmen in history of cricket. Stay blessed Viru Bhai. Keep entertaining. #Legend,” he said.
Jasprit Bumrah joined in, saying: “Only some have the instincts to send the ball over the fence on a regular basis & you are the master of it! Happy B’day sir @virendersehwag.”
Sehwag’s former team mate VVS Laxman shared a picture with the birthday boy on his special day. “Wish you a very happy Birthday , Viru. May you continue to entertain and bring a smile on everyone’s face @virendersehwag,” he wrote.
Former India coach and legendary spinner Anil Kumble also wished Sehwag, saying: “Many Happy returns of the day @virendersehwag . Have a great year ahead!”
India’s discarded batsman Suresh Raina called Sehwag synonymous to destruction. “Happy birthday to someone whose name is synonymous with the word destruction. Always a nightmare for the bowlers Wish you the best @virendersehwag paaji,” he tweeted.
West Indies’ destructive batsman Chris Gayle also joined the celebration as he tweeted: “Happy birthday legend, @virendersehwag may the lord bless you to see many more.”
