Despite widespread rumours of Jose Mourinho of having lost the Manchester United dressing room, it appears that the Portuguese still has the backing of the squad after David de Gea uploaded a picture on his Instagram handle with a defiant caption.

Mourinho, in his post-match interview with Sky Sports, insisted the team was still united despite suffering a 3-0 home loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur to lie six points of the title race just three games into the Premier League season.

The Portuguese’s fiery press conference that followed, however, reignited rumours that the Special One could be on his way out sooner rather than later.

Walking out after barely three minutes demanding respect for his past achievements, Mourinho looked like a beaten man, lashing out with hollow bravado like one cornered with nowhere to go.

Red Devils defender Luke Shaw, in an interview with MUTV, insisted that the dressing room was united behind the manager and it appears de Gea has echoed that sentiment as well:

What’s notable is that in the picture Mourinho isn’t present, but the Spanish custodian’s message seems clear to all and at least for now, the squad is backing their manager to steer them in this moment of crisis..

They started the season well enough, edging Leicester City 2-1 but since then, things have started to unravel.

Brighton & Hove Albion stunned them 3-2 on Matchday 2 before Lucas Moura and Co. put United to the sword on Monday night to deep the gloom surrounding Old Trafford.

Club CEO Ed Woodward reportedly doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Mourinho and neither do star players Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba, which means the Portuguese tactician could use all the support he can muster right now.

United next take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Sunday night in the final club game before the first international break of the season.
