Premier League giants Manchester United are in the middle of a problem. Due to several of their contracts being extended and several others being rejected, the Red Devils currently have as many as seven starting centre backs in their team. They are yet to decide which of them they want to keep and which of them they should release. However, one of those defenders Eric Bailly might be one of the players they might want to keep in the squad for a long term.

According to a report carried by The Sun, a UK based tabloid, United have started negotiations with Eric Bailly to try and extend his contract. Notably, the Ivorian International player had joined them in 2016 and only has a year remaining in his contract. Bailly had signed a four-year deal but several injury issues have kept him in and out of the team and he never really got a consistent run. However, the report adds that Manchester United have an option to trigger the two-year automatic extension clause.

Bailly will have to contest for a place in the team with players like Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, and Axel Tuanzebe who are all set to remain in the team.
