Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has gradually picked up his goal scoring form. He scored in the Carabao Cup against Chelsea and also found his name on the score sheet in the much anticipated match against Liverpool. Gradually, even rivals and opponents, including a particular Liverpool player, are beginning to realise the quality he possesses as a player.
It is worth highlighting that Manchester United had defeated arch-rivals Liverpool 2-1 in an encounter on March 2018. The game is most remembered for Rashford’s brace and how he got the better of Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Over a year and a half later, Trent Alexander-Arnold has now admitted that he was outplayed by Rashford that day.
“Yeah, [that’s] the toughest [game I’ve had] in terms of a direct opponent and someone getting on top of me in professional football,” he told the Athletic.
“I’d say I underestimated him (Rashford). It was a massive learning curve for me. It was something that I hated happening.
“As a Liverpool player, it’s probably the worst game of the season to perform like that. But when things like that happen you have to learn from them.”
Post that, Trent Alexander-Arnold has become a vital member of the Liverpool team and even played an important part in his team’s UEFA Champions League winning campaign.
“You hate days like that. You don’t want to experience that,” he continued.
“You remember how it felt and that makes you try everything you possibly can to ensure you don’t have another one like it,” he concluded.
