It was Liverpool who got the better of Barcelona in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League last year and from then on Barca have been trying to rope in a few Liverpool players in their team. Recent reports reveal that Lionel Messi wants the club to draft Roberto Firmino in their squad.
Players like Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane have all been linked with a possible move to Barcelona but it is the rumours regarding Roberto Firmino’s potential transfer that have gained pace over the last week or two.
Now that Don Balon are claiming that Messi has given the nod to Firmino, there might be some element of truth in the transfer rumours. Notably, the Brazilian’s contract with Liverpool is scheduled to run until 2023 and Barca will have to wait till at least 2021 before they can make a move for Firmino. The 28-year-old has already had an impressive start to the season and has netted three goals and provided three assists in the Premier League.
With age catching up on Suarez and his skills diminishing, Barcelona have stepped up their search of a long-term replacement for him and if reports are to be believed Messi has identified the player he wants to have in the team.
