After the Indian Premier League player retention process, in which every franchise named the players they retain, the focus has shifted to the IPL Players Auction. Player auction is going to take place in Bangalore on January 27 and 28.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli became the most expansive player as RCB spent Rs 17 crore to retain their captain. CSK is back in IPL after the break of two years and they have retained their skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni along with all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina.

Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) have the advantage over other teams in the auction as they have retained only one player in the player retention event.

While RR went for Aussie skipper Steve Smith, KXIP picked left-arm spinner Axar Patel.

In IPL auction, each franchise can spend 80 crores and buy 25 maximum players in which eight can be overseas.

Player Retention Policy:

Every team can retain 5 players either by retaining the player or by using RTM (Right to match card). If the franchise had not retained any player then they can have up to 3 RTM

One team can retain maximum 3 Capped Indian players and two Overseas players and 2 Uncapped Indian players.
