Fresh from a month-long break from badminton after a hectic schedule, Sindhu and Srikanth won their matches against Aya Ohori and Kenta Nishimoto respectively.
Seeded fifth in the competition, Sindhu is looking for her maiden title of the season. She registered a challenging win against Ohori with the scorecard reading 11-21, 21-15, 21-15 in her favour.
Meanwhile, Srikanth, who has been seeded eighth in the competition, defeated Nishimoto 21-14, 21-13 in just under 40 minutes to win register a convincing win.
While this was Sindhu’s seventh win over Ohori, Srikanth registered his fifth win over Nishimoto, who has managed only one win against the top Indian shuttler.
Sindhu will now have to face either Mia Blichfeldt or Yip Pui Yin. Srikant, on the other hand, will meet Brice Leverdez or Ng Ka Long Angus.
However, it was not all happy news for Indian supporters. B Sai Praneeth, who had reached the finals of Swiss open, was knocked out of the competitions as he lost 15-21, 21-13, 10-21 to Wong Wing Ki Vincent.
