Continuing his top-notch performance in the fifth unofficial one-day international against the West Indies A, India batsman Shubman Gill won the Player of the Tournament award.
India A outplayed the West Indies A 4-1 to finish their unofficial outing to the Caribbean island on a high.
Right-handed batsman Gill on Monday took to Twitter to share his happiness after winning the Player of the Tournament award.
“Brilliant series win and happy to have won the player of the tournament. Always proud to wear the blue of India,” tweeted Gill with the trophy in hand.
The classy Punjab batsman amassed 218 runs from just four innings at an average of 54.50. He was the leading run-scorer in the series with a high score of 77.
Notably, the 19-year-old has not been picked for the Indian squad for the West Indies tour beginning 3 August.
The fans, however, are unhappy with the fact that the promising Punjab batsman has been ignored by the selectors for the series. The 19-year-old made his ODI debut with the senior squad during India’s tour to New Zealand earlier this year.
Chief selector MSK Prasad told the media after announcing the squads that Gill was in the waiting list. “He was given an opportunity when KL Rahul was out against New Zealand, he will have to wait for his turn,” he said.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey have been included in the team for the limited-overs series against the West Indies. Iyer is expected to be slotted into the contentious number four position for which India have not been able to find a suitable option for quite some time now.
