The veteran custodian was given a hero’s welcome at Anfield last night!
A legend of the game is appreciated everywhere he goes and that’s exactly what happened when Porto custodian Iker Casillas visited Anfield to take on Liverpool in a UEFA Champions League tie on Tuesday night.
As he was afforded a hero’s welcome, the Spaniard took to Instagram to post his appreciation at the gestures made by the Reds faithful.
You’ll Never Walk Alone (YNWA) is of course, the Liverpool anthem and the fact that Casillas posted a picture of him and Reds manager Jurgen Klopper on his Instagram handle with the anthem as the caption confirms his gratitude.
A legend at club and international level, Casillas is in the final stages of a glittering career. He captained Spain to the 2008 and 2012 UEFA European Championships and also lifted the big prize—the FIFA World Cup— in 2010 as La Roja dominated the international scene in an unforeseen manner.
A product of Real Madrid’s Academy, the 36-year-old spent most of his career at the Santiago Bernabeu and won everything there is to win in club football on multiple occasions to perhaps possess the most enviable trophy cabinet in modern football.
Currently at Portuguese giants Porto, who got knocked out of the continental competition despite holding the Reds to a 0-0 draw (Liverpool won the first leg 5-0) in the second leg at Anfield and Casillas played the complete 90 minutes.
The veteran custodian aka San Iker is in the final few months of his three-year contract with the Dragoes and he’s yet to decide whether he will continue in Portugal or chose a new club.
