Star Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who rose to fame with his ‘heroic’ 76 runs against Pakistan in the finale of Champions Trophy, has landed in trouble for a comment on Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

On Wednesday, a special SC/ST court directed the police to register a case against him for his alleged Tweet on BR Ambedkar.

“Which Ambedkar ??? The one who drafted a cross law and constitution or the one who spread the disease called reservation in the country,” read the now-deleted Tweet, allegedly posted by Hardik Pandya. The Tweet was posted on December 26 last year.

As per a report published in the Times Of India, petitioner D R Meghwal claims that Hardik Pandya’s comment was insulting and it hurt the sentiments of the people of his community. He even said Pandya was trying to spread hatred in the society.

“I learnt about Pandya’s comment through social media in January. It appeared quite derogatory for a figure like Ambedkar and was an attempt to spread hatred and create division in the society,” said Meghwal, an advocate.

“By doing so, he has committed a serious crime and hurt the sentiments of my entire community,” Meghwal further said.

Meghwal also said the Indian cricketer should be given adequate and suitable punishment for his “crass act”.

However, the said Tweet is not available on Hardik Pandya’s official Twitter handle anymore. It seems Pandya removed the comment from the micro-blogging site as soon the controversy erupted. He never made an official comment on it, either.

Hardik Pandya, who was rested for the recently concluded Nidahas Trophy 2018, will be seen in action in the eleventh edition of Indian Premier League.
