La Liga giants Real Madrid had quite an active transfer window in summer 2019. They sent a strong signal across Europe that they are in no mood to sit back abut are wanting to somehow get their combination right and get back to dominate European football circuit. Players like Ferland Mendy, Luka Jovic, Eden Hazard, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao were all drafted in by the Real Madrid side in the recently concluded transfer window. However, considering that Eden Hazard rejected their arch-rivals Barcelona’s offer in the past, his signing would give them immense satisfaction.
As per a report put together by Kristof Terreur for The Athletic, Hazard has even rejected the chance to join or even talk to Barcelona before signing the deal for Real Madrid. The Belgium international forward joined Real Madrid from a successful Chelsea stint in the transfer window.
According to Terreur, the 28 year old was gravitating a lot of transfer interest during Belgium’ FIFA World Cup campaign in 2018 since he was in prime form. Many clubs approached him during that time and that included Barcelona. However, as it is being published in the report, Hazard ignored all calls from Barcelona director of football Eric Abidal. The Belgian had his set on only one club- Real Madrid.
Eden Hazard eventually bagged the deal with Los Blancos in early June and apart from a whopping transfer fee of around €100 million without bonuses, he has also been given the iconic number seven jersey previously worn by stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Raul.
Hazard is expected to make his debut for the club in La Liga against Levante this weekend.
