Real Kashmir FC beat Chennai City FC 1-0 through a last-minute goal in the 129th edition of the Durand Cup on Wednesday despite getting minimal time to practice ahead of the match.
A long-range strike from Danish Farooq in the 90th minute gave Real Kashmir a solitary goal win over the Chennai side.
Due to the current situation in Srinagar, the city out of which the club is based, Real Kashmir assembled in Kalyani for the first time only on Monday night. However, this could not stop Danish Farooq from scoring the winner and bagging the match in favour of the ‘Snow Leopards’.

Till the half-time whistle, the match barely got to life with the rain playing spoilsport.
Real Kashmir tried hard to get past Chennai defenders but Kabir T, the goalkeeper, made some brilliant saves to keep them at bay. But Kabir was then shown a red card in the second half for handling the ball outside the penalty box and suddenly the match leaned in favour of Real Kashmir.
It was moments before the final whistle would be heard that Danish netted the all-important goal.
“We play professional football. You have to be professional. These sort of things keep happening. Tomorrow something else may happen. Football teaches you how to tackle these situations and play well despite the odds,” Farooq said, reflecting on the situation back home.
“They have been hardworking to make a good competitive team. They asked to put up a better show. We will try to do well in upcoming matches as well,” Farooq said dedicating the goal to the entire team members, support staff and owners.
Real Kashmir meet Army Green next on 10 August and Chennai City play FC Goa on 14 August, both at Kalyani Stadium.
