Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, the highest run-getter in One Day Internationals and Tests, on Thursday recalled the time when he donned the white jersey for India for the first time 29 years ago.

Sharing three pictures from his debut Test match against Pakistan in 1989, Sachin Tendulkar wrote on Twitter, “This day, every year, brings back so many memories of the day I 1st represented India. It was an honour to play for the country and be able to represent India for 24 years.”

Sachin Tendulkar had made his Test debut on November 15, 1989 against Pakistan in Karachi at the age of 16. He has been the youngest Indian player to represent the nation in international cricket.

 

Sachin Tendulkar’s debut match between India and Pakistan was a draw and he only scored 15 runs before getting bowled out by Pakistan pacer Waqar Younis. Interestingly, Waqar Younis, who is also popularly termed as the swing kings, made his Test debut in the same match, at the age of 17.

 

In his two-decades-long career, Sachin Tendulkar amassed 15,921 runs in 200 Test matches with the help of 51 centuries and at an average of 53.78. Tendulkar has also scored 18,426 runs in the limited overs game at an average of 44.83 with 49 tons.
