Former English cricketer and umpire David Lloyd on Friday criticised Ravindra Jadeja for running out “debutant” Sarfaraz Khan during the third test between England and India.
Lloyd, speaking to TalkSports Cricket, mentioned a misunderstanding between the quick and agile Jadeja and the sturdy Khan during their running between the wickets. This confusion led to the end of the young debutant’s impressive innings, where he scored a brisk 62 runs at a strike rate of 93.94 before being run out.
Lloyd described how Khan would hesitate to respond with a clear yes or no, which often left him stranded. Eventually, it was Mark Wood who completed the run-out.
The Mumbai-based cricketer entered the game at No. 6 after captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a superb 131 runs. Khan immediately showcased his talent by confidently playing attacking shots and scoring runs consistently throughout his innings.
The misunderstanding led to the debutant being run out just after reaching fifty in international cricket.
In a touching moment, the young player received his Test cap from the legendary Anil Kumble before the third Test between England and India in Rajkot. His parents were also present to witness the occasion.
The right-hander gained notoriety after he scored 439 off 421 balls, shattering Sachin Tendulkar’s 1988 Harris Shield record. When he was just 12 years old in 2009, it was his first Harris Shield game.
