It’s no secret that Spanish giants Real Madrid are big admirers of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, but Red Devils fans can rest easy over the Spaniard’s future with the man effectively committing himself to the club for another season at least.

Los Blancos have tried, on a number of occasions, to lure the 27-year-old from Old Trafford to the Santiago Bernabeu, but largely due to United’s no-sell stance, have been unsuccessful.

Despite having a solid goalkeeping option in Keylor Navas, Real have made concerted efforts to make de Gea their ‘Galactico’ at the back and after Liverpool beat them to the signature of Roma custodian Alisson, United fans were fearing that another bid for their prized asset was on its way.

However, the man himself has sought to shut down speculation after linking up with his teammates on the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.

“I’m really happy to be back with the team and with my team-mates,” the Spaniard told MUTV on his return to the squad after a holiday following his exploits for Spain at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Truth be told, the Spaniard had underwhelming tournament in Russia, making a number of gaffes as La Roja slumped to a shock defeat at the hands of Russia in the last-16.

Perhaps, had he starred for the 2010 winners, his stock would have risen to meteoric heights and a move to the Spanish capital would have been inevitable.

DON’T MISS | Why is Manchester United man Chris Smalling ‘miffed’ with talk show host James Corden?

“It’s beautiful weather and I want to be fit as quickly as possible. I had a holiday with my family, with my friends and everyone, and have a full battery to come back here to start again. It’s always good to have a break, to relax and enjoy it with people.”

As it is, Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois had a sensational summer as Belgium finished a creditable third. He’s effectively the No.1 target for Los Blancos, even more so as he continues to stall on a new deal with the Blues.

”The season is long. You need to take a good rest and start again. Everything starts again and, hopefully this season, we’ll do our job all together and try to win big things,” the 27-year-old added, leaving no doubt that he sees his immediate future with the Red half of Manchester.

So with Courtois perhaps on the verge of joining Real, interest in de Gea has cooled, much to the relief of Jose Mourinho and Co.

The Spanish custodian and Brazilian midfielder Fred have just arrived stateside to bolster Mourinho’s squad and might get to play their first pre-season match when United face Liverpool on Saturday night.
