Star South African pacer Dale Steyn on Saturday (14th July) equalled Shaun Pollock’s record by becoming the joint highest wicket-taker in the Test cricket of the rainbow nation.
During the second innings of the opening Test match of the two-match series between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Galle, Steyn removed Islanders’ last batsman Lakshan Sandakan from the strike to claim his 421st wicket and in the process equalled Shaun Pollock’s record of 421 dismissals in the longest format of the game.
The South Africa pacer took 21 less number of matches to equal the record of Pollock. While Shaun Pollock had played 108 Test matches to grab 421 wickets in Tests, Dale Steyn reached the landmark in just 87 matches.
Before the South Africa vs Sri Lanka ongoing Test series, Dale had 419 wickets in his kitty and was just three wickets short of becoming the joint highest Test wicket-taker of South Africa.
Dale Steyn had returned to Test cricket after a gap of 13 months due to a shoulder injury.
