Whenever the question of fitness arises, or who is the fittest cricketer in India is asked, the name of captain Virat Kohli pops up without any second thought.
In fact, fitness has become one of the most important parameters for the selection in Indian cricket team to the extent that one has to pass the Yo-Yo Test in order to don the Indian jersey as Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri have made it a compulsory prerequisite.

Despite being one of the fittest players in the Indian circuit, Virat Kohli still goes through the Yo-Yo Test to inspire his team. However, there is one player who claims to be the fittest, even more fit than skipper Kohli.
He is 26-year-old batsman Karun Nair, who is the only other triple centurion other than Virender Sehwag for India in Tests. Nair has recently claimed that he is the fittest player in the Indian squad.
Speaking to Cricbuzz, Karun Nair has said that as per Team India’s trainer Shanker Basu, it is not Virat Kohli but he himself who is the fittest among the lot.
“I’ve been spending a lot of time with (Shanker) Basu Sir, our trainer and Sanjay Bangar sir as well, our batting coach. Obviously a lot of throwdowns and a lot of net sessions. But mainly I have been spending time with Basu Sir. According to him, I am the fittest person in the team right now. I am very proud of that and I just want to keep improving on that,” Nair was quoted as saying in the interview.
Meanwhile, Nair, who scored an unbeaten 303 against England in the home series in 2016, has been axed from India’s Test squad for the upcoming West Indies series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming tour. The opening Test match against West Indies will start on October 4 at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
