Notably, Lionel Messi trails Cristiano Ronaldo on the goal count and the former has 672 goals in contrast to Ronaldo’s 700.
Portugal captain and football legend Cristiano Ronaldo netted his 700th career goal as he slotted in a goal in Portugal’s 1-2 defeat against Ukraine in the Euro 2020 qualifier.
The Juventus striker confidently converted a penalty against the Group B leading team to reach the historic landmark of 700 career goals.

Ronaldo’s score against Luxembourg on Friday had taken his goal tally to a remarkable 699. His goal helped the 2016 Euro Champions ease to a 3-0 win in that match. Since CR7 was on 699, there was a lot of anticipation ahead of the crunch Euro 2020 qualifying game against Ukraine. And Ronaldo did not disappoint as he scored against Andriy Shevchenko’s men to add another milestone in his illustrious career.

The former Real Madrid striker CR7 is now the sixth-highest goalscorer in the history of the game and with 700 goals joins an elite club alongside the likes of Josef Bica, Romario, Pele, Ferenc Puskas and Gerd Muller, who have all netted 700 career goals or more.
The five-time Ballon d’Or Winner, however, has a long way to go if he aims to draw level with former Czech Republic striker Bican who scored a scarcely believable 800 goals between 1931 and 1950. Romario and Pele of Brazil boasted of 772 and 767 goals respectively. However, Ronaldo can certainly boast of yet another achievement which his rival Lionel Messi cannot.
Notably, Lionel Messi trails Cristiano Ronaldo on the goal count and the former has 672 goals in contrast to Ronaldo’s 700. Cristiano has played as many as 976 senior matches in his career till date.
The former Manchester United forward has been in great goal scoring form throughout his career. He scored 118 goals in 292 games for the Red Devils, 450 goals in 438 matches for Real Madrid and already has 32 goals for Juventus.
Ronaldo is sensing yet another record as he nears the all-time international goal scoring record. The 34-year-old legend now has 95 goals for Portugal in 162 appearances and the record for most goals at the international level belongs to former Iran forward Ali Daei who bagged 109 goals for his country.
The way Ronaldo is playing, it is only a matter of time before he surpasses the international goal scoring record.
