Football Club Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta will not play in Tuesday’s Champions League match against Portugal’s Sporting due to discomfort in his left calf caused by muscle fatigue, the Catalan club announced on Sunday.
Iniesta had started with Barcelona in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Celta but was replaced by Denis Suarez in the 53rd minute of the La Liga match, reports Efe.
“Medical tests carried out have confirmed that FC Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta has muscle fatigue in his left calf and will miss Barça’s next game,” Barcelona said in a statement on its official website.
Iniesta’s teammate Samuel Umtiti also suffered an injury in the same match and is expected to be out for eight weeks.
La Liga leader Barcelona is set to host Portugal’s Sporting in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday at the Camp Nou stadium.
