Aussies destroy proteas by innings and 182 runs

The visitors were restricted at 204 runs while chasing a mammoth target of 386. This embarrassing defeat follows a 2-day thrashing defeat from the hands of Australia in the Gabba Test. The third and final Test between the two nations will be played in Sydney from January 4.

Australia has thrashed South Africa to win the second Test by an innings and 182 runs on the 4th day. With this, the hosts have wrapped up the three-match test series by 2-0 on Thursday.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon became a hero as he clinched 3 wickets by giving just 58 runs.

Also, the replacement pacer Scott Boland claimed 2-49 and contributed to Kangaroo’s convincing victory over the visitors. This has now boosted Australia’s chances for the World Test Championship Final whereas Africa’s dreams towards the WTC final have seen a big blow.

Earlier, South Africa resumed their innings on the 4th day at 15/1. They needed a miracle to chase down the target of 386 runs. However, Temba Bavuma (65) and Kyle Verreynne (33) showed some resistance as they put up a 63-run stand for the fifth wicket.

But the partnership was broken by Booland when he trapped Kyle LBW and then Nathan Lyon dismissed the tail to ensure Australia registered victory and yet another series triumph on home soil.
