India’s veteran fast bowler Ashish Nehra drew curtains on his 18-year-long international cricket career in the backdrop of an overwhelming home crowd at the Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi, on Wednesday night.
The 1883-established stadium that holds up to a capacity of more than 40,000 spectators saw fans turning up in huge number for Nehra’s farewell game.

In the honour, Nehra was presented with a memento by skipper Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. Besides this, the DDCA placed a hoarding reading ‘Ashish Nehra End’ above the Kotla sightscreen.

The two screens showed the bowling clips and statistics of the Delhi pacer with the trending hashtag #NehraJi.
However, the most heart-warming moment came for Nehra during the match when one of his fans came into the field crossing all the security to meet the cricketer. The fan was also seen touching Nehra’s feet and seeking his blessing.
The warhorse speedster appeared in good shape and bowled his four overs very well. Even though he couldn’t claim a single wicket, India won the 1st T20I by 53 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-T20I series.
India’s assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, however, thinks that the duo’s return to their best is a matter of regaining confidence and composure in the initial phase of their innings.
