The third signing of the summer after Matteo Musacchio and Franck Kessie, the 24-year-old Rodriguez is said to have come on a €17 million deal and made close to 150 appearance for Wolfsburg during his five seasons with the Bundesliga side.
Possessing a mean left-foot, the 5’11 defender is a full Switzerland international having accumulated 41 caps for his country since making his debut in 2011. Before joining Wolfsburg, Rodriguez played for FC Zürich. He came up through the youth academy of the Swiss team, making his debut with the first team on the 21 March 2010 against Bellinzona. In the Super League he made 48 appearances, scoring two goals.
While he is proficient in defence, it is his offensive traits and in particular, his dead-ball capabilities, that enabled him to hit 15 goals for Wolfsburg that caught the eye of many top clubs in Europe
