Here is a list of five players who we think need to help Messi tonight, if Argentina need to have any chance of going through.
Angel Di Maria
The PSG winger has looked out of touch at this World Cup so far. He was dropped after the first game, but came back against Nigeria. .
His link-up play with Messi can cause the young French defence problem, but Di Maria will have to play out of his skin, and give Argentina an outlet going forward.
He scored the winner for Argentina in the round of 16 last time against Switzerland and will be looking to repeat his performance from last time.
Paulo Dybala
Dybala has not started a single game yet and Sampoali has been criticised for not playing him more. He is a constant threat from the right side even if he comes off the bench.
The game may go deep into extra time and Dybala’s impact from the bench may decide the game for Argentina. Sampoali has not utilised him properly but Argentine fans will be hoping to finally see Messi and Dybala play side by side and weave their magic.
Ever Banega
The best player on the pitch against Nigeria apart from you know who.
Every ball he threaded through landed, and the Sevilla man provided the assist for Messi in the 13th minute.
He was exceptional and kept that midfield together. His runs going forward and awareness was a important part of his game against Nigeria, and he will look to continue his good form.
France is a different fish altogether, but Banega has the talent and experience to put on another good display.
Nicolas Otamendi
The Man-city star has been bad for Argentina at this World Cup. He has been sloppy on the ball and looked nervous in a side which conceded three goals against Croatia.
He will need to step-up his game if Argentina want to stop the formidable French attack. Olivier Giroud is expected to start for France and he is always a threat in the air. Otamendi will have to play out of his skin to stop France from scoring in this match.
