Australian speedster Pat Cummins claimed two wickets as the hosts took control on Day 1 of the first Ashes Test, restricting England to 196/4 at stumps in Brisbane on Thursday.

James Vince scored a causative 83-run knock before he was run out by Nathan Lyon in the 60th over. He slammed 12 boundaries in his composed 170-ball knock.

Vince established a 125-run partnership stand with Mark Stoneman (53) for the second-wicket. Playing his fourth Test for England, Stoneman played responsibly and steaded England’s innings after an early jolt.

Earlier, Alastair Cook lost his wicket cheaply for two runs to Mitchell Starc, who sported a handlebar moustache look, just like Mitchell Johnson who haunted the English side in the previous edition of the Ashes series.

For Australia, Cummins was the star as he claimed two big wickets in Stoneman and captain Joe Root (15). No other bowler managed to claim a single wicket for Australia but the hosts dominated all three sessions of the Test match.

At stumps, Dawid Malan was batting on 28 along with Moeen Ali, whose 13 included the day’s only six.
