Summers are here! As the heat rises, there are many common health problems that we have to tackle. Thus it becomes quite significant to add a few foods in our diet to keep the body system running smoothly. Onion is one of the beneficial foods which should be eaten every day during this season. The root vegetable absorbs a great amount of nutrients from the soil. Packed with high concentration of antioxidants, vitamins A, B, C and iron, it helps to keep our body system clean. The higher levels of sulphur compounds give this vegetable a pungent taste and odour. Onions produce sulphur compounds through an enzymatic reaction when they are cut. Eat onions raw for maximum sulphur content as cooking significantly decreases the quantity of this compound. In addition to sulphur, onion also contains quercetin, an antioxidant that fights harmful free radicals. Light cooking may increase the healthy trait of this nutrient.

In traditional cooking, onion is quite popular to be used during hot months. It is because the flavourful vegetable has cooling properties besides having a wonderful taste and excellent health benefits. Here are a few benefits which we can embrace by eating onions regularly during summer:
