Bathing daily or brushing twice a day are not the only ways to maintain good personal hygiene and keep away from infections. Keeping your personal belongings like toothbrush clean also contributes in reducing the likelihood of spreading infection.

Toothbrush is a tool you use to keep your teeth clean and maintain good oral hygiene. It is important to keep your toothbrush always clean; allowing you to rid yourself from germs and infections. Germs can spread through air and get stuck if your toothbrush comes in contact with them.

Don’t touch your toothbrush with dirty hands. Wash your hands to get rid of countless germs before using your toothbrush.

Maintain some space between toothbrushes in the brush holder stand to avoid germs from other toothbrushes. The bristles of your toothbrush shouldn’t touch the bristles of other toothbrushes.

Whenever you use your toothbrush, make sure that its bristles should be dry. Also if you keep your toothbrush covered, let them dry properly first. Moisture develops bacterial-rich environment around your bristles. Avoid using wet bristles always.

Never share your toothbrush with anyone. Sharing it may easily spread germs and promote tooth decay.

Rinse your toothbrush thoroughly under running water after brushing. It will remove any toothpaste or debris. You may rinse your toothbrush with antibacterial mouth rinse before brushing. After using it you may soak it again in an antibacterial mouth rinse. This practice may decrease the level of bacterial growth on bristles.

Replace your toothbrush every three to four months or after any illness. Inspect your toothbrush on regular basis and replace more often if required. Disposable toothbrushes can also be considered as good option but it is a costly affair.

Never use damaged toothbrush. It may lead to infectious diseases.

If you have a compromised immune system or low resistance to infection due to some disease, chemotherapy, radiation treatment or you have a systemic disease that may be transmissible by blood or saliva, you may be at higher risk to infection or re-infection by various microbes. You need to be extra careful about the hygiene of your toothbrush.

Studies have shown that various microorganisms can grow on toothbrush after use. Dirty toothbrush can make you sick. Living a hygienic lifestyle and staying healthy will help you to keep your body free from disease and sickness.

Remember, dirty toothbrush can make you fall sick terribly. Keep it clean.
