On Monday, the model said she had been attacked by a shark during her trip to the Bahamas a month ago. The incident took place at Staniel Cay, where Katarina decided to swim among a school of nurse sharks. The pictures that went viral of the model were taken while she was vacationing with her boyfriend’s family. Aiming to get a pretty picture, she got into the water, but things went wrong when a 5-foot shark bit her arm and tried to yank her down.

Zarutskie told NBC News, “He had my wrist in his mouth and I could feel his teeth sinking into my arm. I was pulled underwater for a few seconds and then ripped my wrist out of the shark’s mouth as fast as I could.”
“My boyfriend’s family was freaking out when I went to swim with the sharks and I was like, ‘it’s fine,'” she added.

Fortunately, Katarina managed to swim out of the water clenching her bleeding arm. According to reports, she went to a nearby clinic to get her arm wrapped and bandaged when she got to know how infectious the bit is she flew back to Florida to seek proper treatment.
Zarutskie told Buzzfeed that she believed the incident was a “big learning lesson” and she was “very, very blessed and fortunate” not to have lost her hand.
