The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) came up with a unique idea and turned the heads around opting for a stark black and white theme for the Amazon India Fashion Week 2018 which started on 14th March and ended on 18th March 2018.

Samant Chauhan in the opening show played with shades of black and white. He gave an attempt to look beyond the rainbow colors and made an entry into the black world.

From fabric to the embroidery, everything was in a usual style. The outfits were designed with the heavy use of net fabric, glass embroidery, and embroidered jackets.

The eye catchy theme line won the loudest round of applause when the grey cotton, silk-layered, off-shoulder gown paired with a floral embroidered black crop jacket worn by the model walked on the ramp.

Designer Samant Chauhan said after the show, “I wasn’t born color-blind but every time someone asked me why I always chose white as the canvas for my collections, I’d say I was color-blind. For long, I resisted black. But the darkness around me helped me focus hard and grasp the silhouettes, the contours. Darkness helped me understand shadows. They say if we are without shadows, we aren’t living beings.”

Samant’s collection featured a mix of black and grey hues. It also had ruffled and embellished gowns along with embroidered cape jackets. Shirt dresses featuring different shades of black and white; off-shoulder gowns with quirky prints and embroidered ruffled gowns were part of Chauhan’s collection.

After ace filmmaker Karan Johar hit the ramp with sporting grey spikes, designer Chauhan picked up men aged over 40 as his showstoppers and included the men’s collection with shades of black and gray — suits, bandhgalas, and skirts with jackets were seen on the ramp.

The collection also complemented the black and white decor of the venue. The FDCI Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2018 was organised in association with NEXA
