Acne – a persistent issue that all of us have gone through. Popping up at the most unconventional moments, while acne breakouts might subside, acne scars can often remain permanent. The accumulation of oil and dead skin cells, which often result in clogged pores, can lead to acne, while hormonal changes, diet, stress, and poor lifestyle are just some of the other notable reasons. Treating acne scars is not a challenge when you are equipped with these DIY homemade masks at your fingertips.
Turmeric comes with antimicrobial properties, which help in calming the pores and the skin and prevent scarring, while honey, with its antioxidant and hydrating properties, helps in soothing inflammation and acts as a natural moisturizer to lighten the scar marks. Mix half a tablespoon of turmeric powder or turmeric paste with one tablespoon of honey and keep it on your face for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly; otherwise, the turmeric might leave a yellow tint.

Neem acts as an antibacterial and also as a gentle exfoliator by removing the upper layer of the epidermis and removing dead skin cells and scars. Rose water hydrates and gives your skin a natural glow. Take a few neem leaves, make a paste of them, add some rose water, and apply it to your face. Keep it for 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Clay helps remove toxins and excess sebum from the skin, reducing the risk of acne breakout. Removing the toxin helps your skin to heal. Tea tree oil, when used in dilute form, can help reduce acne lesions due to its antimicrobial properties. Concentrated tea tree oil, when applied directly, can harm the skin; hence, dilute tea tree oil with other carriers like almond oil, mix it with bentonite clay (multani mitti), keep it on your face for 10 minutes and then wash it off using a wet soft cloth or towel.
The benefits of turmeric toward acne and acne scar are known, while on the other hand, aloe vera not only soothes inflammation but fights off the bacteria buildup and removes excess sebum, ensuring the pores are clean and minimized, reducing chances of acne. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric with two tablespoons of aloe vera gel, apply it on your face, and let it stay for 15 minutes before washing it off with water.
While these DIY masks are a great solution towards remedying acne scars, you can go for active ingredients like salicylic acid or hyaluronic acid to treat acne scars.
