Preparation time: 20minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
Masoor dal: 1.5 cup
Green chillies: 4-5
Onion: 1 (large)
Garlic: 5-6 cloves
Coriander leaves: 1 handful
Ginger: 1” piece
Salt to taste
Red chilli powder: 1 tsp
Coriander powder: 1 tsp
Chat masala: 1 tsp
Oil for frying
Method
Wash masoor dal thoroughly. Soak it in plenty of water for two to three hours. Drain the water and discard it. Grind the dal to a fine paste or slightly coarse paste in a food processor without adding water. Finely chop onion, garlic, ginger and coriander leaves. Add these chopped ingredients to the dal paste. Add salt, red chilli powder and coriander powder. Mix all ingredients well. Heat oil in a deep frying pan on high flame. When the oil is appropriately hot for frying, turn the flame medium-low. Take small portions of lemon-size and with the help of your fingertips and thumb leave them in hot oil one by one. Fry in small portions flipping from both sides until golden crisp. Take them out on an absorbent paper. Dab another tissue on it to remove excess oil. Sprinkle chat masala evenly over pakodas and toss well. Serve hot with mint coriander chutney. Masoor dal pakodas can be served as it is without any sides but taste great with green chutney.
