Socialite and entrepreneur Ramola Bachchan emphasises on the promotion of young talent in the field of fashion with her venture Runway Rising.

Runway Rising held their 21st edition of its Pre-Diwali Fashion and Lifestyle Exhibition at The Ashok Hotel, Chanakyapuri in which the designs and work of over 130 designers were displayed.

In conversation with thestatesman.com, socialite Ramola Bachchan talked about her venture and the latest pre-Diwali exhibition.

How many years have you been in the fashion industry and how has your experience been so far?

It started in the 1990s in London by promoting Indian designers to the European market. It’s been fascinating to witness the continuously evolving creativity of the industry.

When did you think you should enter the fashion world?

When I was exploring options after graduating from law school, fashion is something that I have always enjoyed.

What changes have you witnessed in the past years in this field?

The main theme has been designers continuing to push boundaries.

Tell us about your design style. What makes your collection unique?

First Resort is a resort wear line that is stylish, relaxed, casual and feels good. The combination of these makes it unique.

This is the 21st edition of the exhibition, any particular USP you kept in mind while launching it?

Runway Rising has evolved over the years into a lifestyle exhibition which offers a platform to the designer to express their creativity and reach out to a market that is getting more and more confident and expressive about what it likes. This is the main theme today.

What’s it like when you see someone at the party wearing your collection?

It gives a sense of happiness. It makes me happy to know that someone appreciates it and enjoy our creations.

Who is your biggest inspiration?

There are too many designers to name. The fun is to be able to pick and choose from the best.

Tell us something about the collection here and the response you have received so far?

The response has been very positive and gratifying. It feels to be in tune with what people enjoy wearing and the challenge is to stay ahead of the game given the huge amount of talent there is out there today.
