Bhai Dooj occurs a day after Govardhan Pooja and two days after Diwali. One of the most important festivals celebrated by Hindus, Bhai Dooj or Tikka celebrates the love between brothers and sisters.
Bhai Dooj falls on the second lunar day of the Shukla Paksha (bright fortnight) of the Kartika month.

The name of the festival is made up of two words – Bhai and Dooj. Bhai means brother and Dooj means the second day after the new moon.

This year, Bhai Dooj is on October 29. In West Bengal, it is also called Bhai Phota, Bhau Beej in Maharashtra and in the southern parts of the country it is called Yama Dwitiya.
