Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Valla on Friday appointed Bharatiya Janata Party MLA KG Bopaiah as pro tem Speaker for the floor test, which will be conducted at 4 pm on Saturday.
BJP leader Yeddyurappa, who was sworn-in as the Karnataka chief minister on Thursday, has to prove majority on Saturday, as ruled by the Supreme Court.
After being appointed as the pro tem Speaker, Bopaiah was administered the oath of office by the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.

Bopaiah, who had earlier served as the Speaker of the House from 2009-2013, will conduct the floor test and holds the authority to disqualify MLAs.
According to the reports, the Congress is not satisfied with the Governor’s choice.

Senior Advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi has reportedly said that this appointment is against the rule book as ideally the senior most leader is supposed to hold that position.
Congress MLA RV Deshpande is the senior most leader and it was expected that he would receive a call from the Governor.
Party President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee, Dinesh Gundu Rao termed the decision of the Governor as shocking, adding that Vajubhai Vala is acting like an agent of BJP.
“Shocking decision by the Hon’ble Governor..Constitutional Convention says the seniormost,in this case RV Deshpande should’ve been named. Also Supreme Court had passed structures against the conduct of KG Bopiah as Speaker. Sad to see Vajubhai Valaji behaving like an agent of BJP,” he tweeted.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered that the floor test in Karnataka Assembly will be conducted on Saturday at 4 pm under the supervision of Pro Tem Speaker.
