Kaho Shibuya is a regular attendee and participant in cosplay conventions all over the world. From voice acting, cosplaying, and teaching, she is pursuing her passion for bringing the world’s favourite anime, manga and video game characters to life.
When asked how she got into cosplay, she explains that it was a natural progression for her. She added, “I love cosplay. I grew up in Japan, where anime and manga is such a huge part of culture I’ve always enjoyed it and now I’m doing it professionally.” She has attended many conventions in Japan while also having flown to the USA several times to participate in the same. In Japan, the people are a little more conservative when it comes to character genders. When it comes to cosplay, they generally stick to the original gender of the character and adhere strictly to the authentic costumes. She says that America is far more flexible in that regard, giving her more freedom to experiment. She explained further, “Gender bender cosplays are a world of fun. I could portray Ryu’s female counterpart or help reimagine One Piece’s Roronoa Zoro as a girl. The possibilities are endless!”
Kaho Shibuya has been invited to several hentai and anime conventions in California, appearing at Anime Expo in Los Angeles for the last two years in a row. From her experiences at conventions in the States so far, she says; “I’m so happy that so many people recognize me here. Most of the time I wear cosplays so it may take some time but they know my name and it’s a really great feeling.”
