The Indian Youth Congress on Saturday staged a protest against the BJP-led government at the Centre over freezing of the bank accounts of the opposition party.
Members of the Congress’ youth wing under the leadership of its national president Srinivas BV held the demonstration outside its office here.
Addressing the members, the IYC national president said, “Democracy has completely ended in India. The Modi government has destroyed democracy by locking the bank accounts of the country’s largest opposition party, Congress.”
“First the Prime Minister sent ED, IT, CBI after the Opposition leaders, arrested many, and broke the political parties. Now the bank accounts of the Congress party and the Indian Youth Congress have been frozen just before the elections. If it is not an attack then what is it ?,” he said.
Attacking the ruling dispensation, Srinivas said, “The bank accounts of BJP should be frozen because they have deposited unconstitutional corporate bonds in their accounts, which are unconstitutional according to the Supreme Court.”
“We have money raised by workers through online donations in our accounts. Income Tax and how can the Modi government freeze it? It is clear from this step that democracy is no longer in our country. It seems that an attempt is being made to bring ‘one party system’ in the country,” the IYC chief said.
He added that every Youth Congress worker will fight tooth and nail to “protect India’s democracy”.
