A 53-year old woman pilgrim Urmilaben was killed after being hit by shooting stones while on way to the Amarnath cave shrine in Kashmir.
Two troopers of the mountain rescue team (MRT) were also injured while trying to rescue the woman.
Amarnath yatra was temporarily suspended from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes on Sunday due to rain. No pilgrim was allowed to proceed towards the cave shrine from the two routes.
The woman pilgrim got seriously injured in the shooting stones incident between Sangam Top and Lower cave and later succumbed to her injuries, police said on Sunday.
The two injured MRT troopers, Mohammad Saleem and Mohammad Yaseen of J&K Police, were evacuated by the Army and a private helicopter.
DGP J&K Dilbag Singh condoled the death of the woman yatri and has also expressed sympathy with the bereaved family.
The DGP appreciated the commitment of two policemen and expressed his thanks to everyone involved in their quick evacuation.
Meanwhile, the total count of yatris has crossed two lakh in the first half of the month after the pilgrimage began on 1 July. As many as 208415 devotees have undertaken Pilgrimage during the first 15 days.
The ADGP Kashmir along with DIG South Kashmir Range, SSP Kulgam and CO CRPF reviewed the security at several points including NavYug Tunnel. The ADGP also inspected live convoy movement of yatris and non-yatris.
