Two days after a Sikh policeman courageously rescued a Muslim youth from the hands of an irate mob in Uttarakhand’s Ramnagar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader warned that “Hindu sena” will be forced to take matters into its hands if nothing was done to improve the situation.

“We don’t go to mosques or madrasas because we don’t have the right to go. Why did they go to temple with an intention to destroy Hindu sabhyata?” asked Rajkumar Thukral, BJP MLA from Rudrapur, during his visit to the Garjiya Devi temple in Ramnagar on Saturday.

On 22 May, Sikh police officer,  sub-inspector Karanbir SIngh, saved a 23-year-old Muslim youth from a mob comprising Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad members in Ramnagar who alleged that the youth was found with a Hindu girl near the Garjiya Devi temple, located around 14-15 km from Ramnagar.

A video which went viral a few days later showed the cop shielding the young man while bravely warning the mob to stay away. The mob is also seen abusing the girl.

Talking to reporters, Thukral angrily asked, “Those antisocial elements are roaming with a Hindu girl. Why? You are trying to instigate Hindus. Why?”

He added that there is “no law-order and administration” to check such activities. Interestingly, Ramnagar is represented by BJP’s Diwan Singh Bisht in the Uttarakhand legislative assembly.

“We will continue to fight against any attempt to destroy Hindu civilisation, forced conversions and love jihad,” he announced, adding, “It is time to teach a lesson to those who want to vitiate the atmosphere of Ramnagar.”

“If the police and administration don’t do anything then the Hindu sena will be forced to take matters into its own hands,” he said.

According to the TOI, Thukral was recently in the news for roughing up toll plaza attendants. Reports say that the Ramnagar police filed an FIR against “unknown persons” on Friday for assaulting the man.
