Terming voter participation in the electoral process crucial for the proper functioning of a democracy, The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi Dr. Ranbir Singh said here on Friday no citizen should stay away from participation in the elections.
A two-day sports competition organized by the Education Department in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for voter registration/awareness especially among the youth of 17+ age group during Special Summary Revision-2023 (SSR) concluded on Friday at Dr Sahab Singh Verma Stadium, Kakrola, Najafgarh, Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Singh said that “the youth must enroll themselves as voters and cast their vote in every election. They must realise that they have the highest stake in our democracy and hence their participation is most crucial”.
District Election Officer (South-West); Sh Hemant Kumar, OSD (SVEEP) CEO office JL Gupta, Director, Education (MCD), Vikas Tripathi, International Para Athlete and District Election Icon (South-West); Vikash Dagar along-with senior officers of other departments were also present at the event.
Dr Ranbir Singh said, “We are encouraging youth and students to follow the official handles of @ceodelhioffice on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.”
He called upon those who already have a Voter ID card to check their names in the Voter’s List and link their Aadhaar Number (Form-6B) with their Voter ID as soon as possible. He requested all Divyang/ PwD voters to mark themselves in the voter list in order to easily avail all accessibility facilities during elections.
Various games i.e. Table Tennis (Male & Female), Chess (Male & Female), Kho-Kho (Male & Female), Volleyball (Male), Throw Ball (Female), Shot Put (Male & Female), Long Jump (Male & Female), and Tug-of-War (Male & Female) were organized at the event. In the two-day event, para games i.e. Shot-put (Male & Female), Leg Disability and Long Jump (Male & Female), and Hand Disability were also organized. These events were organized to motivate/awareness of prospective voters/ voters who are 17+ of age.
Schoolchildren also performed group dances and other activities including songs at the inauguration. A special stall was also established at the function site to assist the voters, particularly the youth, as part of the Special Summary Revision 2023 exercise.
