The recent charges of violence against Hindi speaking labourers, mainly those from Bihar in Tamil Nadu, has been blown out of proportion. The two videos which went viral on March 2 have triggered a ruckus inside the Bihar State Assembly as the main opposition BJP stormed the House on Friday.
Tamil Nadu Police has taken stern action against the persons involved in making and spreading the videos across the country. SP Krishnagiri Saroj Kumar Thakur while talking to media persons warned the people not to spread these two “fake” videos. Those responsible for spreading these videos would be punished severely. he said.
The SP further said that two videos – one is regarding the fight between two Hindi speaking people and another about two natives in Coimbatore. All the related tweets have already been deleted, he said.
Tamil Nadu Police in its tweets said that in “the videos, it has been incorrectly claimed that Hindi speaking people from Bihar are being assaulted by Tamil speaking people of Tamil Nadu. In fact, in TN migrant workers from other states of India are safe and secure”.
Talking to a few passengers coming from Chennai here at Danapur station confirmed that nobody has seen any violence and only heard about it through videos and rumours. “Out of fear and anticipating further violence we have rushed to our village anyhow sitting in a toilet or in the general compartments of the overcrowded Sanghmitra Express,” (12295) passengers from Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Nalanda and Jamui said.
A large number of Bihari migrants also said that they have come to their native place for Holi festival and marriages in the family. The Tamil Nadu police have released helpline numbers for the convenience of the migrants. These numbers are 0421-2203313/ 9498101300/ 9498101320.
The issue was first raised by Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha in the House demanding immediate action in this regard on Friday. Sinha demanded the CM to send a team to Chennai to probe this matter about the alleged assault of Bihar labourers in TN.
Sinha also displayed the footage of a video in the House saying that if it is a fake, then he will tender an apology in the House. There was also a verbal duel between Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Sinha in the House.
Soon after the session, a BJP delegation of Sinha and Leader of Opposition in the Upper House Samrat Chaudhary met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in his chamber demanding to send a team of officials to TN to probe the whole incident.
Immediately after that, Chief Minister Kumar said that a delegation of four officials will soon visit TN to investigate the alleged violence in the state against migrant labourers from Bihar. A large number of labourers from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh are also working in TN.
These officials – Balamurugan D, Secretary, Rural Development, IG, CID, P Kannan, Special Secretary, Labour Resources and SP, STF, Santosh Kumar are already camping in TN probing the entire matter.
Tiruppur, also called as the dollar city for its thousands of export oriented garments hosiery units, has a large number of migrant labourers from Bihar, UP and Jharkhand. According to a rough estimate, more than one lakh labourers from Bihar are working in this garment industry. The city accounts for 90 per cent of India’s cotton knitwear export, worth $ one billion.
In Patna, the chief spokesman of the ruling JDU Neeraj Kumar claimed that TN Police has lodged a case against two BJP leaders – Prakash Patel Umraon and a YouTuber Mohd Tanveer for spreading rumours to create disturbances.
“The Centre had announced in the Parliament on July 27 last year that it had provided jobs to only seven lakh twenty two thousand and three hundred eleven people as against the promise of over 22 crore people during the last eight years,” Kumar claimed.
The Centre has failed to fulfil its promises which has also badly hit the employment prospects of unemployed Biharis and other Hindi speaking people of the country. It has led to the rise of migration in other states, Kumar told a section of mediapersons.
