Ludhiana: Assistant sub-inspector, aide held for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe
The accused ASI had demanded Rs 1,40,000 and agreed at Rs 60,000.
The complainant has further alleged that the above-mentioned ASI has told him that he would share a monthly bribe with driver Piyush Anand and department officials.
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday nabbed an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Indian Reserve Battalion and a driver red handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 80,000.
Disclosing this on Tuesday, a spokesperson of the VB said the accused ASI Gurjinder Singh, posted at Mohali and driver Piyush Anand have been arrested on the complaint of Kailash Kumar resident of Janakpuri, Ludhiana city.
Giving details, the spokesperson said the complainant has approached the VB and alleged the above said police official and driver were demanding a bribe of Rs 80,000 for allowing his vehicles laden with iron scrap without paying entry taxes at inter-state check post, Shambu, Patiala district.
The complainant has further alleged that the above-mentioned ASI has told him that he would share a monthly bribe with driver Piyush Anand and department officials.
The spokesperson said after verifying this complaint, a VB team laid a trap and the accused police official along with driver were caught red handed taking bribe money of Rs 80,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.
He said a case under Section 7, 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act and 120-B of IPC has been registered against the accused police official and driver at VB police station, economic offences wing, Ludhiana and further investigation was under progress.
