Senior IPS officer Vivek Kumar Johri, the new Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF) took charge at BSF headquarters in Delhi on Saturday from the outgoing Director General Rajni Kant Mishra.
Johri, a 1984-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, served as the Special Secretary in the external intelligence agency RAW, under the Cabinet Secretariat.
BSF in a tweet announced his appointment, “Shri Vivek Johri took the charge of Director General #BSF. He is the 25th Director General of Border Security Force.”

Johri will head country’s largest border guarding force of 2.5 lakh personnel tasked to secure two of India’s most important and sensitive borders with Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The order has been issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) that is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has Home Minister Amit Shah as its member.
The ACC order said, the officer will attain superannuation in September, 2020,
The outgoing Director General Rajni Kant Mishra said, “It was my singular honour and privilege to command one of the world’s largest border guarding force. I am taking home deep seated satisfaction of working with extreme professionals of their field, ” tweeted BSF.
