Six motorcycle borne criminals shot at a home guard and a police constable when they tried to stop them for checking at Chausana Chowki of Jhinjhana police station of Shamli district on Tuesday night. They escaped along with the weapons looted from the two cops.

The home guard, Sanjay, is critically injured and has been referred to Meerut while constable Sansar Singh escaped unhurt.

According to Dinesh Kumar, SP Shamli, the assailants have been identified and four teams have been formed to nab them.

Kumar asserted that they would be apprehended soon and the looted weapons would also be recovered.

Instead of stopping they started abusing and manhandling constable Sansar. When Sanjay intervened they thrashed him and fired at him which hit him in the chest. They also fired at Sansar but he managed to save himself from the gun shot.

They hit Sansar on the head with the butt of the gun and fled taking the rifles of both Sanjay and Sansar.

Sansar immediately informed the chowki in charge Ajay Kasana who reached there with the force. Sanjay was rushed to a hospital from where he was referred to Meerut in a critical condition.

Meanwhile, senior officials were also informed who reached the spot and directed the force to initiate action.
