Passengers travelling by the Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will now have to spend more as bus fares have been hiked from Tuesday.

The fares of the buses have been increased at a rate of 25 paise per kilometer. The increased fare has been implemented from Monday midnight.

The hike in the fares will yield additional annual revenue of Rs 30 crore to the Corporation.

The order to hike the fares has been issued on behalf of UPSRTC chairman Venkateswara Lu after getting approval from the state government.

A meeting of the State Transport Authority (STA) was held on January 30, in which the proposal regarding hike in the fares for roadways buses and autos has been approved.

The rate per kilometer for normal buses was earlier Rs 1.05. Now, it has been increased to Rs 1.30 per kilometer.

Around 14 lakh passengers travel in roadways buses daily. After the increase in the fares by 25 paise per kilometer, the income of roadways will increase by about Rs 2.5 crore per month. It will exceed Rs 30 crore annually.

This is the first time after 2012 when the fare hike was of 25 paise per km. It was between 4 to 10 paise between 2012 and 2020.

After the hike, the fare of ordinary bus journey would be Rs 1.30 per km, Janrath(3x 2)- Rs 1.64 per km, Janrath (2 x 2)- Rs 1.94 per km, Air conditioned sleeper bus Rs 2.59 per km and High end Volvo/Scania Rs 2.86 per km.
