Amid continuous sloganeering by Samajwadi Party led opposition of ‘Rajyapal Vapas Jao- Governor Go Back’ during the joint session of the Uttar Pradesh legislature on the opening day of the Budget Session here on Monday, Governor Anandiben Patel kept her patience and read out the entire address hailing the Yogi Adityanath government on its six-year long achievements.
As the Governor along with other dignitaries reached the state assembly to address the joint session at 1100 hrs, the opposition led by SP were on their feet raising slogans and holding black placards and posters highlighting the failures of the state government including inflation, law and order, unemployment and demand for Caste census.
In her around one hour long address reading out 47 pages during the pandemonium, the ruling BJP party members and their alliance partners thumped their tables regularly when the Governor was narrating about the achievements of the government countering the slogans of the opposition members.
The Governor claimed that this government was committed to the uplifting of the poor and to develop the state to make it an one trillion dollar economy in the next couple of years. She narrated in detail about the achievements of the government focusing in each and every sector.
Earlier in the day, the  SP MLAs led by party general secretary Shivpal Singh Yadav staged a dharna and sit-in in the assembly premises, raising various issues including that of farmers, inflation and law and order situation in the state.
The SP leaders demanded that the government should allow debate on all the issues before the people including inflation, unemployment, farmers problems along with law and order issues.
During the SP protest, the security personnel of the assembly roughed up some photo and video journalists , which was vehemently opposed by the media persons.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while talking to media persons before  the start of the session on Monday, said that maintaining a high dignity and decorum of the House and carrying forward serious discussions to increase the faith of common people in democracy was the prime motto of his government.
“The state government is ready for discussion in the House on issues related to the state’s development and public welfare. There should be discussion in the assembly in a positive atmosphere. Besides following the parliamentary traditions, all the members should keep their suggestions and issues in the House,” he said while adding that the people of the state have elected and sent members to the country’s largest assembly and now it is the duty of all the members to live up to the public’s trust.
SP President Akhilesh Yadav, who is also Leader of the Opposition, said that the state government has failed on all fronts. On the statement of Swami Prasad Maurya on Ramcharitmanas, Akhilesh Yadav said that he will answer it in the assembly.
“Both the governments at the Centre as well as in UP have looted our villages and the poor with unemployment at its peak. Law and order has also collapsed in the state,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, BSP supremo Mayawati said that the speech given by the Governor on the first day of the budget session in UP was a futile attempt to cover up the failures of the state government.
The BSP president in a couple of tweets  said the governor’s speech did not address inflation, poverty, unemployment and backwardness and disturbed environment etc. plaguing the people.
She further said that contrary to the claims of the government except the elements in power in UP, today every section is suffering and unhappy due to the policies of the government. People not getting their rights and justice is the biggest failure of the government. The government should pay attention to this, she demanded.
