Former Uttar Pradesh minister Haji Yakub Qureshi and his son, who were on the run from Meerut since November last were arrested from Delhi on Saturday morning in connection with an illegal slaughter house.

The police here said that Yakub and his son Imran, against whom the Meerut Police had lodged a case under Gangster Act were arrested from Chandni Mahal police station area in the national capital.

Case number 131/22 under Kharkhoda police station was registered against 14 people including Yakub and Imran under section 420/269/270/272/273/120B of IPC on April1, 2022 for running an illegal business of meat packaging and processing under the name of Al Faheem Meetex Private Limited in Meerut.

Later, the police lodged the case under Gangster Act in Kharkhoda police station against them on November 11, 2022.

Yakub, who was state minister in the BSP government, was absconding since April last and his arrest was made under section 174A of the IPC and other relevant sections, the police confirmed.

Both the father and son were being brought to Meerut on transit remand.
