With aim to promote the indigenous pottery industry and eco-friendly Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP), OP Singh asked all the police stations to light earthen ‘diyas’ instead of electric lights.
DGP released an order asking officials to shun the use of Chinese lights and buy homemade earthern lamps from local potters. This will help in increasing their income during the festive season.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been promoting the use of earthen products as a substitute for plastic products. He also formed Mati Kala Board to promote local artisans to make clay products.
In Ayodhya, on the third ‘Deepotsav’, scheduled on Saturday, more than 5.5 lakh earthen lamps will be lit, creating a new world record. Out of these 5.5 lakh lamps, 4 lakh will be lit at ‘Ram ki Paidi’.
In order to make this Diwali eco-friendly, Union health minister Harsh Vardhan on October 5, had also launched eco-friendly firecrackers. These firecrackers are manufacture in India and are available for sellers and manufacturers.
He also announced that the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) labs have been successfully developing various environment-friendly fireworks such as sound-emitting crackers, flowerpots, pencils, chakkaris and sparklers.
